Cold Weather and Lil' Best Friends

2/3/2016 (Permalink)

General Cold Weather and Lil' Best Friends "Sweetie" my lil' buddy

My little dog, a Carin terrier mix loves to hang outdoors with me but sometimes the weather is just too harsh for her to hang outside for too long.

The cold weather can cause problems for us humans as well as our pets. Our pets just like humans can experience the harsh consequences of cold weather. Hypothermia and frostbite can be seen in animals who have been exposed to the elements for an extended amount of time.

Recognize problems: If your pet is whining, shivering, seems anxious, slows down or stops moving, seems weak, or starts looking for warm places to burrow, get them back inside quickly because they are showing signs of hypothermia. Frostbite is harder to detect, and may not be fully recognized until a few days after the damage is done. If you suspect your pet has hypothermia or frostbite, consult your veterinarian immediately.
