Hurricane Harvey Relief Help

Hurricane Harvey Relief Help

We sent an emergency response team to assist with the terrible effects of Hurricane Harvey in the Houston area. Our SERVPRO team discarded contaminated, water-logged furnishings and belongings where needed as an initial step. We could then focus on salvaging personal possessions and the development structures from further harm.

Mold Containment in Colorado Springs

Mold Containment in Colorado Springs

The fabricating plant in Colorado Springs could not stop production because of a minor mold infestation. Our SERVPRO AMRT created a barrier to isolate the infested wall and then sprayed an antifungal agent on it after first scraping off the visible mold stains.

Storm damage restoration in Colorado Springs sometimes requires temporary power to operate the sophisticated equipment employed by SERVPRO of South Colorado Springs. Shown here is a large trailer mounted commercial generator which is necessary when regular sources of power are unavailable.

Whenever disaster strikes you can count on SERVPRO to be there.  In the event of a major catastrophe such has Hurricane Harvey, SERVPRO uses what are called "Storm Teams" to coordinate cleanup efforts.

Due to the magnitude of damage, SERVPRO Storm teams are handling cleanup projects on a triage basis.  Our franchise sent two storm teams and an estimator to affected areas.

Unfortunately for many homeowners affected, their homeowners policy will not cover flood damage.  The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) only pays for demolition and drying, it does not pay for reconstruction costs.

We are working with families who either have limited insurance or no insurance at all.  It will probably take the region years to recover from this storm.

Drain backup floods basement

Drain backup floods basement

One of the most common causes of water damage is a backup of the sewer or drain lines.  In this example, tree roots grew into and eventually clogged the sewer line leading to the street.

When a clog occurs, black water gradually accumulates in the sewer pipe eventually leading to backup into the home, which sometimes can be catastrophic, causing all drain openings in the entire house to flood at once.

Luckily for this customer the water damage was limited to the lower levels of the house in only a few drains.  The steps in this cleanup involved clearing the sewer line, performing demolition on affected materials, installing drying equipment, and sanitizing the affected areas.

Storm causes damage to flat roof

Storm causes damage to flat roof

Regardless if your flat roof is on a residential or commercial building, it is important to regularly check on its condition.  For the owner of this business, not maintaining adequate drainage on his roof ended up costing him quite a bit of money.

A strong storm overwhelmed the drainage system on this roof causing water to accumulate on the roof's surface.  As the water pooled, it worked its way inside of the building flooding the rooms below it.

One of the rooms below happened to be a commercial kitchen.  Water caused the ceiling sheetrock to partially collapse creating a hazardous situation for the employees.

After we drained the water from the roof we addressed the interior damage.

Roof leak leads to wall damage

Unfortunately for this customer she waited too long to call us to handle water damage related to a roof leak.  She was hoping it would dry on its own, but with water trapped inside the wall it was only a matter of time until the mold grew through.

To remediate the mold it was necessary to erect a containment around the affected area, install air scrubbers to create negative air pressure inside the chamber, and perform the necessary demolition.  Once the framing is exposed we treated the structural wood for mold and dried the affected area.

Our attention to detail was particularly important on this project because one of the children who lived in the house has asthma and was sensitive to mold.

Inadequate ventilation causes mold

Inadequate ventilation causes mold

A property management customer called us to investigate a tenant complaint of mold on their family room ceiling.  It is very unusual for mold to grow in a place like that without water intrusion.

What we discovered was the home had no forced air and the tenant rarely opened the windows.  The steam from cooking caused condensation to build on the walls and ceiling leading to mold issues.

After we remediated the mold we advised the tenant to start running their cooking exhaust vent fan - this simple measure may have prevented the mold from growing in the first place.

Fire Damage - Air Scrubbers

Fire Damage - Air Scrubbers

We recently performed a large loss for a customer who questioned why we sometimes use air filtration equipment when handling demolition. Proper air filtration helps control dust and debris stirred up during demolition that can cause health effects on people and pets.  When we showed him this filter at the end of the project he couldn't believe it!

Shower Water Damage

Shower Water Damage

It's important to check the integrity of water connectors in your home periodically.  In this example, the customer turned off the water to the shower wand but not to the bathtub itself.

When the line burst it caused water to spray at high pressure in all directions.

Grease Fire Ignites Restaurant Kitchen

Grease Fire Ignites Restaurant Kitchen

A few weeks ago a local restaurant owner called us in a panic.  When his staff went into his restaurant early in the morning to begin preparations they turned on their fryer to warm it up.

Without warning some grease near the fryers caught fire and started the kitchen burning!  Luckily the fire department was able to stop the fire before the restaurant became a total loss, but as you can see there was still an incredible amount of smoke and soot damage.

In the left part of the photo you can see what the sheet rock looked like prior to cleaning.  On the right shows what the sheet rock looked like after our cleaning.

Lack of Security Leads to Fire Damage

Lack of Security Leads to Fire Damage

When a kitchen fire occurs, typically no one is watching the pot. This Security property suffered extensive fire damage requiring a large amount of cleanup. SERVPRO techs sealed off this area from the rest of the house to prevent cross-contamination. One step at a time, following professional protocols.

Security Water Damage from a Ceiling Leak

Security Water Damage from a Ceiling Leak

The peeling paint on the ceiling and walls indicate a significant amount of water is damaging the structure. Scraping away this damaged latex covering can reveal water-logged building materials that either can be dried or are in need of a demolition. In this case, it was more economical and time efficient to do a demo and install new materials.

Security Mold Running Wild

Security Mold Running Wild

This vacant property in Security was severely infested with multiple mold patches throughout the structure. Extensive demolition of building elements and carpets, with bagging and discarding, according to local and federal codes was the initial step. Call SERVPRO for jobs large like this one and small ones as well.

Colorado Springs Large-Loss Fire & Smoke Damage

Colorado Springs Large-Loss Fire & Smoke Damage

Recently two separate fires created a dangerous smoke buildup at Doherty High School in Colorado Springs. After the red fire trucks had departed, the Green Box Trucks from SERVPRO pulled up for the cleanup. We coordinated the removal of residual smoke from the ambient air with ozone machines during the night and hydroxyl generators during the day. Our team members set up equipment to clean the ventilation and ductwork systems and then testing to verify and document a return to normal indoor air quality standards. Our local communities rely upon SERVPRO to restore safe and sanitary conditions to many municipal buildings. So can you, just give us a call at (719) 574-2789.
